Audio Bases

Yamamoto Sound Craft

African ebony is an exotic hardwood that is well-known for its rich resonant properties, and this wood is widely used for making many professional musical instruments, including clarinets and oboes.

For a number of years now, Yamamoto Sound Craft has been using African ebony and other sonically outstanding hardwoods to construct a wide range of audio bases. Venus Hi-Fi is pleased to introduce the following best-selling Yamamoto resonance-tuning devices to North America.

PB-9 Audio Base ($40 per set of four)
These ebony cones were designed for use under source components, preamplifiers, and power amplifiers, and will impart a more precise yet tonally richer sound. Given their relatively low cost and their very noticeable impact on the performance of high-end systems, it's little wonder that these bases are our best-selling audio accessories!
PB-10 Audio Base ($35 per set of four)
These ebony cups can be used under any standard spike or cone. Not only will the PB-10 improve the sound quality of a component, it will also guard against the scratches and indentations that spikes and cones can leave on unprotected surfaces.
Note: The PB-9 can be used in conjunction with the PB-10, and we strongly recommend this combination under any audio component for the best sonic results!
PB-12 Audio Base ($75 per set of four)
This is essentially a PB-9 ebony cone that rests inside a large Japanese cherry base. The PB-12 is meant to be used under loudspeakers.
PB-16 Audio Base ($65 per set of four)
Sculpted from Japanese cherry, the PB-16 imparts a somewhat warmer and softer presentation than Yamamoto's African ebony bases.
PB-18 Audio Base ($65 per set of four)
With its African ebony body and a triad of ceramic contact pads underneath, the PB-18 is the ideal receptacle for the standard metal spikes of speaker stands and equipment racks.
PB-20 Audio Base ($55 per set of four)
A larger and more substantial version of the PB-9 ebony cone (see above).
PB-21 Audio Base ($50 per set of four)
A larger and more substantial version of the PB-10 ebony cup (see above).
Note: The PB-20 can be used in conjunction with the PB-21, and we strongly recommend this combination under any audio component for the best sonic results!
PB-22 Audio Base ($12.50 per set of four)
Made from Southeast Asian ebony, these unique triangular audio bases offer sonic improvements similar to to those of Yamamoto's African ebony bases. But the PB-22 additionally allows one to fine-tune the tonality of a component by changing the angle of the bases. Strongly recommended for adventuresome audiophiles on a budget.
MGB-1 Audio Base ($320 per set of three, $410 per set of four)
The MGB-1 is the ultimate Yamamoto audio base. Both of the two large African ebony disks of each unit house a powerful Neozium ring magnet, and the magnets are aligned in opposing polarities so that the top disk "floats" above the bottom disk. Additionally, the top and bottom surfaces of each unit sport a triad of ceramic contact pads for additional stability, and the guide posts between the magnetic rings are coated with Teflon to minimize friction. The bottom line is that the MGB-1 not only imparts the resonance-tuning that Yamamoto's other African ebony bases are well known for, but also provides the kind of mechanical isolation that only pneumatic and magnetic platforms have offered in the past. But because each MGB-1 base can be positioned independently under an audio component, these units allow one to better manage uneven weight distributions (e.g., heavy transformers at the back of an amp) than when using significantly more costly isolation platforms.
